THE DAILY MIRROR PRIDE OF BRITAIN AWARDS ITV, 8pm

-

WHEN grieving widower Jake Coates took to the stage to receive his Pride of Britain Award, many of the stars in the audience were in tears as they gave him a standing ovation.

Jake, 36, won the honour for raising more than £140,000 for the Royal Marsden Hospital alongside his terminally ill wife Emmy, his childhood sweetheart who sadly died from thyroid cancer in June, aged just 31.

Dame Joan Collins and Amanda Holden presented the award to the stunned fundraiser. It was just one of many emotional moments at the star-studded 19th annual Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards, in partnership with TSB, at London’s Grosvenor House, hosted by Carol Vorderman.

Prince William honoured the outstanding achievements of the Manchester medics who worked to save lives after the terror attack in May. And he presented awards to the devastated Grenfell Tower community and the London firefighters who fought to save lives at the terrible blaze.

Star guests including Prime Minister Theresa May, Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, Sir Rod Stewart, Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne, Ed Sheeran, Nicole Scherzinger, Dame Shirley Bassey, Dermot O’leary and Paddy Mcguinness, were wowed by five-year-old Suzi Mccash who dialled 999 to save her mum’s life, aged just four.

You can also see the moments when some of our winners were surprised by the likes of Simon Cowell and David Beckham.

With more brilliant celebrity surprises and deserving winners, it all makes for two hours of truly unmissable and life-affirming TV.
