PROUD George Mathias hit his £50,000 fundraising target for Alder Hey children’s hospital with £10,000 from Dragons’ Den star Duncan Bannatyne at the Pride of Britain Awards.

The 11-year-old, who won Good Morning Britain’s Young Fundraiser trophy, didn’t stop working as he partied with celebrities and royalty at the star-studded event, watched by millions on ITV1 last night.

Buckets passed around Grosvenor House collected £3,000 at last week’s Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards, in partnership with TSB. And then Duncan topped it all.

Dad Richard said: “Duncan came up to my wife with a piece of paper and said ‘There’s a donation from me’ – a pledge for £10,000, without cameras, completely off the radar.”

George had already raised over £35,000 jogging 100 miles in his Run With George campaign – including alongside celebs such as Paddy Mcguinness and Steven Gerrard.

The first £25,000 George collected bought four heated cots for the Liverpool hospital, which saved the life of his brother James, now seven, who was born prematurely.

George – who has now increased his fundraising target – was invited to Saturday’s X Factor, where Nicole Scherzinger and host Dermot O’leary vowed to run with him.

The youngster was snapped with singer Pixie Lott at the awards where he also met Prince William.
