Dad killed kids then set light to house as their mum slept

A DAD killed his two young children by smothering them with a petrol-soaked rag as their mother slept upstairs, a murder trial has heard.

Endris Mohammed, 47, tried to set the house ablaze before fleeing in his Uber taxi and attempting to kill himself by setting it alight.

His wife Penil was woken by a smoke alarm and stamped out a small fire by the front door before finding the bodies of her children Saros Endris, eight, and his sister Leanor, six. Prosecutor Jonas Hankin QC told Birmingham crown court police found the house “had been doused with petrol” and escape routes had been “impeded”. A gas pipe had also been tampered with.

Mohammed, from Hamstead, Birmingham, admits killing the children but denies murder and the attempted murder of their mother. The trial continues.
