Puppy is put down in vet jab blunder

- BY ADAM ASPINALL

A COUPLE have been left devastated after their pet puppy was mistakenly given a lethal injection by a vet.

Ten-week-old border collie Molly was being monitored and on a drip after a routine vaccination made her ill. But she was given potassium chloride to flush the line instead of saline.

Owners Wayne and Lisa Maguire were told the news by distraught vet Sharon King.

Wayne, of Lledrod, Midwales, said: “The vet called and said Molly had died. She was a healthy pup. We are frustrated, annoyed and upset about it. We wouldn’t want anyone to go through what we went through.” He also said the Aberystwyth surgery admitted the blunder was down to the wrong storage of medication and has apologised. And Ms King wrote the couple a personal letter to say sorry. She said: “I realise my apology cannot ease your grief, but I would like you to know I am truly devastated by the event, and that the of my well-intentioned actions resulted in Molly’s death.”
