Everybody except Tory fantasists knows wages, living standards and growth are being squeezed as prices soar and the economy struggles. Every single penny counts.

Financial institutions are always quick off the mark when it comes to charging more for loans, credit cards and mortgages.

But, alas, they are often far less speedy when it comes to paying savers more.

We need an economy working for everybody and we haven’t got one yet.
