MICHEL Roux Jnr yesterday told of his excitement at returning to Northern Ireland – 30 years on from his last visit.

The Michelin-star chef is planning to cook up a storm at the BBC Good Food Show at Belfast’s Waterfront Hall this weekend.

And he’ll be joined by fellow cookery stars Nadiya Hussain, The Hairy Bikers and John Torode at the three-day event.

Michel Jnr said he couldn’t wait to see how the city had transformed since he last visited – and to sample some of the famous Belfast hospitality. He added: “I’m most looking forward to seeing how the city has changed, the last time I was in Belfast was 30 years ago! “I ate at Paul Rankin’s restaurant many years ago so I am very much looking forward to tasting the delights Belfast has to offer.”

Michel Jnr now runs the world famous Le Gavroche restaurant in London after his father Albert retired in 1993.

Since then he has sampled foods from all across the world and has dedictated his life to getting people to eat well.

He said: “Seasonal food is always best and an inspiration.

“However, the soufflé suissesse is a Le Gavroche signature dish and I never tire to cooking or eating it.”

And the chef gave his simple tips for cooking the perfect steak at home.

He said: “Bring the steak up to room temperature. The rest time is critical and should be half the time you have cooked the meat for.” The 57-year-old’s uncle, Michel Roux Snr, made headlines last

YESTERDAY

week after he put up a sign in the restaurant he founded with his brother Albert banning diners from taking pictures of their meal.

But it would seem Michel Jnr doesn’t think it’s a big deal.

He added: “I love it when customers take pictures of their food and themselves. I take it as a compliment.” You can catch Michel Roux Jnr this weekend at BBC Good Food Show which runs in Belfast Waterfront Hall from today to Sunday.
