U can Feel the Love for Elton
Some big names honour Sir Elton John on ITV’S tribute saluting his 50 years in showbiz and the year of his 70th birthday.
Rag‘n’bone Man says he nearly didn’t answer when Elton first rang him. “I got a call, it came up as a ‘no caller ID’ and I was like, ‘Oh, it’s going to be like a PPI claim’. And he basically just called me to say how much he liked my music. I don’t know if he realises what that means to someone like me.”
Ed Sheeran reveals his first kiss was to I Guess That’s Why They Call it the Blues, while Chris Martin says he admired Elton from seven, when he saw the star with a “hot girlfriend” in the Nikita video, laughing: “As time went on I learned more about him and realised some of that was fictional.”
And Elton’s old pal Sir Rod Stewart quips: “He’s not quite as good as me, obviously, but, erm, he enjoys it.”
Sting, Annie Lennox and Lionel Richie also feature in Elton John: The Nation’s Favourite Song, on Sunday at 9pm.
