WW1 markers’ listed status

EIGHT war memorials erected during the First World War have now become Grade II listed.

Built by communities across Britain in 1917, most honour those who had died or were serving.

Historic England’s Duncan Wilson said: “They were a focal point for grief and a symbol for those fighting.”
