COLLAPSE A WORRY FOR ANDERSON

- FROM DEAN WILSON in Adelaide

JAMES ANDERSON is hoping England’s batsmen are getting their collapses out of the way before the Ashes after another familiar failing in Adelaide.

And the new vice-captain warned there would be a debrief into just how easily they came unstuck after this second warm-up match.

Thankfully they had two equally familiar trends to bail them out – Jonny Bairstow hit 61 before the bowlers pulled the rug from under a Cricket Australia XI to make victory a formality on day four.

However there can be no getting away from a line-up that went from 93-1 to 124-7 in bowler-friendly conditions as players continued to play shots even when the odds were stacked against them.

“It is not ideal is it?” said Anderson. “Hopefully we’re getting it out of the way before the Test series starts.

“That is something we have to have a look at and chat about after the game, ask why it happened and what we can do differently to stop it happening again.

Chris Woakes was the pick of the three seamers, claiming 4-17 as CA were reduced to 70-7 at the end of day three and need 194 more to win.
