DIE HARD

O’neill urges his men to keep up their great away form and not be left wondering what might have been..

IRELAND put their World Cup finals credentials on the line in Denmark tonight with Martin O’neill telling his players: “Don’t die wondering.”

The Boys in Green are underdogs to reach the finals in Russia but O’neill insists his team can deliver another big game performance.

Ireland will draw strength from the wins away to Wales and Austria in this campaign, their Euro 2016 victory over Italy and the play-off dismissal of Bosnia two years ago.

O’neill said: “These are tough matches but we’ve put ourselves in this position so don’t die wondering.”

Ireland have lost only two qualifiers

away from home under O’neill and Roy

Keane’s four-year tenure – in Scotland and Poland.

O’neill continued: “Over these two matches we have to find ourselves in front.

“We remain unbeaten away from home in this campaign which is no mean feat and it’s testament to the character of the side.

“While every international side has limitations, we’ll try to stay as strong as we can and play to our strengths which is the most important thing – and something we always do.

“Getting to the Euros last summer was big, but this is even bigger and getting there would be fantastic.”
