AINTREE FOR ’ARRY

Williams star Saunter can stroll to Doncaster victory

- BY NEWSBOY BY DAVID YATES

SAUNTER looks set to make quick work of his rivals in the November Handicap (3.15, ITV4) as the 2017 Flat season draws to a close at Doncaster.

There was much to like about the grey’s debut for Ian Williams in a mile-and-a-half handicap at Newmarket at the end of September.

Saunter, twice a winner for David Menuisier last year, finished five lengths clear of the remainder when a three-length second to Torcello, coming right from the back as the winner made all the running.

The four-year-old son of Myboycharlie races from a 2lb higher mark this afternoon, but that’s still 4lb below his peak BHA rating of 2016 and the booking of outgoing champion jockey Jim Crowley is an obvious plus.

The likely strong pace means Crowley will play his hand late on the ground-versatile Saunter, who looks primed to return to winning ways.
