70year grave riddle solved
THE mystery of who has put flowers on the grave of a drowned schoolboy for 70 years has been solved.
Karl Smith was 12 when he drowned in 1947. His friend Ronald Seymourwestborough, now 84, has visited the grave in Prestbury, Cheshire, ever since.
Karl’s sister Ann Kear, 77, said it was “brilliant” that a BBC Stories investigation tracked him down.
Ronald had been the one to find Karl face down in the sea on a Scout trip to Oxwich Bay near Swansea.
