We announced the birth of the UK’S first quintuplets, born to Irene and John Hanson, of Rayleigh, Essex, after fertility treatment. The girls arrived nine weeks early at London’s Queen Charlotte’s hospital.
77 YEARS AGO (1940)
Coventry suffered its deadliest air raid of the war. The attack, carried out by 515 Luftwaffe bombers, killed 568 people and destroyed the city’s cathedral.
17 YEARS AGO (2000)
Convoys of lorries and tractors converged on London and Edinburgh in an attempt to force the Government to cut fuel duty. In London, drivers parked their vehicles on the hard shoulder of the M40 and walked to the protest in Hyde Park.
