TB and rickets hitting poor in tower blaze borough
THE residents of the Grenfell Tower borough are so poor that Victorian illnesses are returning, MPS warned.
Tuberculosis and rickets are now affecting people in some parts of Kensington, West London, a report on the inequality that exists in Britain’s richest local authority found.
It highlighted cases of children being admitted to hospital after collapsing due to a lack of calcium.
Labour MP Emma Dent Coad said “malnutrition in the womb” had caused their lack of calcium.
A report by the charity Shelter said “lax housing legislation” had failed to prioritise tenant safety and played a part in the Grenfell tragedy.
