Outrage over second death of lynx at zoo
A ZOO’S lynx has died in captivity days after another one was shot dead after it escaped.
Nilly asphyxiated as staff tried to move her ahead of a council inspection.
Three weeks ago Lilleth leapt an electric fence at Borth zoo, West Wales. She was killed by a marksman over the weekend.
Owners Tracy and Dean Tweedy said staff were “under pressure”.
They added: “There seems to have been a terrible handling error where it seems [Nilly] twisted in the catch-pole and became asphyxiated.”
Lynx UK Trust blamed “incompetence and ineptitude”. But the couple, who took over six months ago, said they were aware of serious issues and planned a new lynx enclosure.
