I’M IN LOVE WITH MY BEST MATE
Dear Coleen
I think I’m in love with my best friend. He’s everything I’ve wished for in a guy and we’ve already slept together multiple times.
I admit I get jealous when I see him flirting with other girls, but I don’t want to ruin our friendship.
Sometimes I do feel like we are in a relationship and he’s said some things that suggest he likes me more than a friend too.
However, we are still pretty adamant we don’t want to be in a relationship with anyone at the moment. Should I risk telling him my real feelings, even though I’d rather know him for ever than ruin our friendship?
Coleen says
Wow, he’s having his cake and eating it and you’re pretending to be OK with the arrangement. You do want to be in a relationship. You want more and he doesn’t. He’s getting everything from this relationship apart from having to commit to it 100%.
If you don’t want to lose him as a friend, then stop sleeping with him. You have to accept that a line has been crossed though. If you do go back to being friends and he meets someone, will you be able to cope with it?
Admit to him that your feelings have changed and if he says he doesn’t want more, then you have to stop making it more because, generally, friends don’t sleep together.
