KEEP IT UP GAZ

- BY DARREN FULLERTON

JONNY EVANS hasn’t given up hope that West Bromwich Albion team-mate Gareth Mcauley will still be a Northern Ireland player for the Euro 2020 campaign.

Mcauley turns 38 next month and many fear he will hang up his international boots to focus on his club career.

Evans says it would be a “shame” if his defensive partner (above) didn’t add to the 53 caps he has amassed since making his debut as a 25-year-old in 2005.

He said: “It wouldn’t be an easy decision to make and I’m 95% certain he will stay. You can see the love he has for playing for his country.

“G hasn’t mentioned anything about retirement of anything like that. I still think he’s got a lot more to give and it would be a shame if he did retire.”
