Bridg­ing the gap at Carrick-a-rede

AN iconic rope bridge was re­placed yes­ter­day to en­sure its fu­ture safety.

Steel ropes and North Amer­i­can pine have been used on the new £6,000 cross­ing at Carrick-a-rede, near Ballintoy in Co Antrim.

The Na­tional Trust, which main­tains the pop­u­lar tourist at­trac­tion, said the new struc­ture can take a strain of 10 tonnes – equiv­a­lent va­lent to the weight of a bus.
