Danish pasting for Republic of Ireland
O’neill’s World Cup dream shattered
IRELAND’S World Cup dream was torn to shreds as they took a Danish Pasting last night with a 5-1 drubbing.
It all started so well as Shane Duffy put the home side 1-0 up. But Christian Eriksen scored a hat-trick to silence Dublin’s Aviva Stadium and book Denmark’s place in Russia. And in Belfast supporters who gathered at Fanzone S13 on the Boucher Road were left distraught by the result.
Derry-born winger James Mcclean said: “I don’t know what to say, we shot ourselves. I’m just devastated – not just for ourselves, for everyone.”
