NEW SHOGUN DUE
Mitsubishi will launch an all-new Shogun Sport early next year. The Shogun, known as the Pajero in other parts of the world, is from the old school of 4x4s where its rivals were the Land Rover Discovery and the iconic and bulletproof Toyota Land Cruiser.
The Shogun was tough, too, and I have fond memories of blasting along muddy tracks in Yorkshire and Scotland in them.
This new model is powered by a 180bhp, 2.4-litre diesel engine mated to a new eight-speed automatic gearbox. The Shogun seats seven and has a luggage area that can hold 1,488 litres with the chairs folded.
A host of technologies are standard, including hill start assist and trailer start assist, plus a dedicated off-road mode. Prices and full specification will be announced closer to the car’s launch. London has already introduced a toxicity charge (the T-charge) for vehicles which do not meet Euro 4 standard emissions, and other cities are likely to follow suit. Trouble is, how do you know what standard your car conforms to?
Research by the RAC has found that 38% of motorists have not even heard of the emission classification system, and that 64% of those who had didn’t know what category their vehicle fell into.
The Transport for London website can help drivers here, it reveals whether a car meets its standards by entering the reg plate. See tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ emissions-surcharge/emissions-surcharge-checker
