Chef reveals fussy Fuhrer enjoyed millet with linseed oil in his bunker

HITLER liked eating bowls of millet and linseed oil in his bunker, newly found letters from his cook reveal.

And the Nazi dictator became addicted to Constanze Manziarly’s cakes as his “thousand year-reich” collapsed.

Manziarly – nicknamed Miss Marzipani by the SS – cooked his final lunch of pasta and tomato sauce. But until now little was known about her relationship with the monster.

The insight into the Fuhrer’s last weeks in his Berlin lair was revealed in newly discovered letters she wrote to her sister in Innsbruck, Austria.

She said there were no “culinary challenges” for the Fuhrer. Vegetarian Hitler preferred millet or quark with linseed oil and as a meat substitute he was fond of chopped mushrooms.

From the start of the war he only ever ate grated apples for dessert.

But he would “lose control” and devour her cakes in late-night meetings with his generals. “I bake a lot every day, often for hours, but in the evening everything is always gone,” she told her sister.

Hitler tried to show his affection by presenting her with “mouse grey thick stockings”. But she wrote: “The boss doesn’t know much about fashion.”

Manziarly became Hitler’s cook after studying veggie cuisine at the Berchtesgaden clinic that supplied “faddish” meals to the Berghof, his nearby retreat in the Bavarian Alps. He was enthusiastic about her, announcing: “I have a cook with a Mozart name!” – referring to Constanze, wife of one of his favourite composers.

But Manziarly was less impressed. She wrote of a “demoralised” Hitler who left her “feeling that I have one foot in the grave”. On the evening of April 30, 1945, the 25-year-old cooked his supper – fried eggs and mashed potato – not knowing he had already committed suicide.

Two days later, posing as a soldier, she fled the bunker with Hitler’s secretary Traudl Junge and a group of SS officers.

Junge saw her captured by two Russian soldiers and led into a metro station. She was never seen again.
