Crackdown call as man admits child porn rap

Charity plea after sicko’s conviction

- BY SHAUNA CORR

THE NSPCC has called on the Government and internet companies to protect children from the “vile trade” of sex abuse images.

It comes after a Belfast man pleaded guilty to making such pictures.

Rory Campbell, 21, appeared at the city’s Crown Court yesterday where he was put on five years probation and ordered to sign the sex offenders register.

He was arrested at his home off the Malone Road in South Belfast in June last year and admitted to officers he was guilty of looking at pictures of child abuse according to the National Crime Agency. An NSPCC spokesman said: “By viewing these images of sickening sexual abuse, Campbell has only fuelled this vile trade in children’s suffering.

“Every indecent image he downloaded was a record of a crime which will have a devastating and lifelong impact on the victims.

“We need to ensure that action is taken by internet companies and by government to tackle the production and distribution of this horrific material and protect more children from abuse.”

Officers who examined Campbell’s computers found 560 images and videos on Campbell’s devices, 53 of which were in the most serious category for such material.

He was given two years probation and 100 hours of community service, placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years and was made subject to a five-year sexual offences prevention order.

He pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing indecent images of children

and a further 11 counts of making indecent images of children.

NCA regional head of investigations Rob Burgess said: “Campbell was viewing and sharing disturbing material and his actions prolonged the abuse of the victims within the images.” Anyone concerned about a child or young person who may be suffering abuse can call the NSPCC Helpline 24/7 for advice on 0808 800 5000.
