BOXING hero Carl Frampton is facing legal action from his former management.

The former world champion, 30, split from Cyclone Promotions and Barry Mcguigan, who had guided his career, in August.

Frampton’s solicitor John Finucane said: “We can confirm that Cyclone Promotions and Blain Mcguigan have lodged proceedings against our client Mr

Carl Frampton in the High Court, London on November 23, 2017.

“Mr Frampton is deeply disappointed that Cyclone Promotions have decided to initiate legal action against him.

“However he will not only defend this action rigorously but can confirm he will be counter claiming on a number of grounds.

“Mr Frampton is confident that this process will vindicate his position and reputation, and looks forward to engaging fully in this process to present all aspects of this claim before the court. Therefore it would be inappropriate to issue any further comment at this time.”

Mcguigan’s son Blain is one of the directors of Cyclone Promotions, which had been promoting Frampton since 2013.

Barry Mcguigan had guided Frampton through the professional boxing ranks up until their final fight together, Frampton’s world title loss to Leo Santa Cruz in January.

Frampton was also trained by Mcguigan’s son, Shane, up until the split.

A planned comeback fight due to take place in July in Belfast under Cyclone Promotions fell through after opponent Andres Gutierrez injured himself in the shower.

Frampton made his long-awaited return to the ring earlier this month at the SSE Arena in Belfast, coming out on top against Mexican Horacio Garcia.
