WE’RE LOVING LIFE AT THE TOP OF 1A Sloan: My Olympic boys can handle the pressure

-

Just over a third of the way into their league campaign and Olympic are well on track to hitting Sloan’s points target of 54, a total he feels will guarantee his club Premier Division football next season.

“We have looked at it and in my head, I’m thinking if you get to 54, you won’t be far away,” said Sloan.

“That’s the target we have set ourselves and we hope 54 is enough for promotion. The way it is going, Islandmagee have dropped points and they dropped more on Saturday.

“If Larne Tech were to win all their games in hand, they would go six points behind us and Rathfern dropped more points as well so results have worked out well for us.

“Then there’s Killyleagh, they still have a lot of games and they could still cause a lot of problems, they are a good side but they’ve only played a few games so they have a lot of games to catch up on.

“So we’re just taking it one game at a time and just hoping that other teams around us lose points and the main aim for us is still to try and get promoted and if we were to win the league, it’s a bonus.

“But we don’t look beyond the next game and we have Sirocco Works next which is another tough game.”

On behalf of his club, Sloan also passed on his best wishes to Chris Keenan, the stricken Larne

Tech ‘keeper who suffered a broken jaw in Saturday’s draw.

“It was a bad injury and unfortunately, he’ll miss their semi-final now but our club would like to wish him a speedy recovery,” added the Olympic chief.
