Cath quits Corrie.. but not for Eva

Fans’ favourite could return one day

- BY NICOLA METHVEN TV Editor

CORRIE fans have been left stunned by Catherine Tyldesley’s shock decision to quit next summer.

But Cath, who plays popular Eva Price, didn’t rule out returning to the ITV soap.

The mum-of-one said: “Eva has been such fun to play over the last seven years, and, who knows, one day she might storm the cobbles of Weatherfield again.”

She will depart just a few weeks after her screen ex Aidan Connor, played by Shayne Ward, but their exit storylines will not be linked.

Cath, 34, stressed that the door had been left open for Eva to reappear, adding: “Coronation

Street has been a dream job which is why this was such a difficult decision.

“In the meantime I’m excited about new acting projects and spending time with my family.” Cath took maternity leave in 2015 and returned to an explosive love triangle involving Aidan and hairdresser Maria Connor. It ended in her dream wedding day being ruined after she lied about being pregnant.

In March, Cath said she and her husband Tom Pitford were planning more children in real life. “We’d love for Alfie to have a little brother or sister.

“I once said I’d like four but I think we will settle at two.” A Corrie spokesman said: “Cath’s portrayal of Eva Price has made her a firm favourite among fans and she will be missed.

“The producers and writers are currently working on her exit.”
