It’s Wayne’s world if we show belief

- JAMIE PEACOCK

THERE are no grey areas or ambiguity in this England team – everybody knows what needs to be done in Brisbane today.

I think Wayne Bennett (below) is the best in the business at doing that.

Everybody understands their roles exactly and that gives you belief.

There has been a confidence and a feeling of being on a journey right from the opening game against Australia and you have to look to Wayne for installing that.

But the team knows the size of the task that is in front of them.

It’s an Australian side that has not been beaten for two years and hasn’t lost a World Cup game since 2008.

Our team is confident and has belief in what they can do and how they need to play to beat Australia.

It’s a case of everyone turning up and bringing their A game, that’s what’s needed.

There has been a lot of talk about historic factors, but the players are just focusing on the here and now.

Games going back 10, 20, 30 years are nothing to do with these players – it’s a new group with a new coach and we’ve been building towards this since Wayne took over.

Losing Sean O’loughlin on the eve of the game is a blow – he’s a world-class player and we’ll miss him.

But one of the strengths of this squad is the depth in it, right through all 24 players.

And Sam Burgess is a great leader and player – the perfect captain.

There’s several captains within the side like versatile Leeds Rhino Kallum Watkins (top) and you often find that at international level.

My own time is done as a player and I’m sure I’ll look on and see what an occasion it will be.

I played in nearly 30 finals, but never in a World Cup final.

These players are in a very fortunate position and I just hope they make the most of it – I’m certain they will.
