Snow saves Ulster from far right
FAR right outfit Britain First had to scrap a Belfast rally yesterday – because of the snow.
Its leaders were to protest over the “persecution” of deputy Jayda Fransen, right, who is being prosecuted over a City Hall speech in August.
But their flight was axed as heavy snow blanketed parts of England.
A Twitter message from the group said they will reorganise for next year.
A PROTEST by far right group Britain First had to be called off yesterday when its leaders were unable to fly – thanks to the snow.
Chief Paul Golding posted a video on Twitter after 11am to say he was postponing the rally due to weather “causing chaos”.
He said he and deputy Jayda Fransen had been “stranded” for hours, adding the event will not be held “until the new year”.
The rally was set to be a protest against Fransen being charged last month with using “threatening, abusive, insulting words or behaviour” linked to a rally organised by a Belfast councillor earlier this year.
The 31-year-old is expected to appear in Belfast Magistrates Court on Thursday in relation to a speech she gave in the city at an event attended by members of Britain First. The “anti-terrorism” demonstration was organised by independent councillor Jolene Bunting in August.
Speaking on the Twitter video, Fransen said she and Golding had hoped to fly over on Saturday.
However, she had to meet with police “to sign on” and talk about “the threats I’ve received”.
She added she has to be in Belfast on Thursday for her court date.
The rally had been due to take place at 3pm on Chichester Street in the city centre.
