RORY Cowan has revealed he won’t be celebrating Christmas and will be ditching the turkey and ham for pizza.

The 58-year-old actor told of how the festive season isn’t the same for him since his mother Esther’s health deteriorated in recent years.

The former Mrs Brown’s Boys star has replaced disgraced comic Al Porter in the Olympia panto Polly and the Beanstalk and will be working over the festive season.

Rory said: “This Christmas I won’t be having one. My mother has dementia so we won’t be celebrating. Up until recently I had Christmas in my mother’s with all the family, but since she became bedridden and doesn’t know what time of the year it is, I haven’t had a Christmas.

“On Christmas Day I will visit her then afterwards I’ll visit my sister and her family and exchange gifts there.

“Then I’ll go home and go to bed early.”

Rory, who quit Mrs Brown’s Boys in July, admitted he’ll be shunning the roast. Speaking in this week’s TV Now Maga- zine, he told of his menu plans, adding: “Probably a pizza. I live on my own so I’m not going to buy a turkey and all the trimmings.”

Over the weekend, Brendan O’carroll opened up about Rory’s replacement to Marian Finucane on RTE Radio One. While the comic would not reveal the identity of who is taking over the role in this year’s Christmas special, he said he looks like Rory.

He added: “What I love about this episode is that everybody goes, ‘There’s no change’. Except Agnes, who goes, ‘It’s not Rory’.”
