GRABS..JUST

-

Silva forced keeper Ben Hamer into a save with a left-foot angled shot after 14 minutes.

Hamer was called into action again to tip Gundogan’s chip from the top of the box on to bar.

At the other end the hosts’ first real chance was when Harry Maguire headed over Christian Fuchs’ corner at the back post.

But Guardiola’s men deservedly took the lead soon after. Iheanacho was guilty of losing the ball in the City half as Gundogan robbed him.

As the Nigerian striker appealed in vain for a foul and didn’t play to the whistle, Gundogan rampaged forward with purpose.

His run to the top of the box ended with a deft right-foot flick with the outside of his foot to the unmarked Silva.

He made no mistake to toepoke in a low left-foot shot under Hamer.

The Foxes almost snatched an unlikely equaliser in the 33rd minute when Claudio Bravo had to dive to his right to keep out Iheanacho’s sidefooted shot.

City remained on top and in Gundogan had the classiest performer. Leicester’s biggest cheer was for the 56th-minute double substitution to bring on Vardy and Mahrez for Iheanacho and Marc Albrighton.

But Silva should have doubled their lead when he surprisingly opted to pass rather than shoot when clear on goal.

Then came the moment that sent the tie to extra time, Demarai Gray outpacing Kyle Walker and the resulting tangle saw the referee point to the spot.

Vardy smashed the penalty beyond Bravo.
