Healy: Our title hopes are buried

- BY ALEX MILLS

LINFIELD boss David Healy admitted his team’s title chances had gone after the 2-1 defeat to Glentoran at the Oval. Although Cameron Stewart shot the Blues into a first-half lead, they proceeded to squander a number of great chances. They paid the ultimate price when Curtis Allen levelled early in the second-half before substitute Robbie Mcdaid sent the home fans into a frenzy by hitting an injury-time winner.

“It’s the first derby I’ve lost and it hurts, just like losing a cup final,” said Healy. “Our title chances have gone.

“We have fluffed too many games. We have fluffed too many chances and conceded too many silly goals.” Glens boss Gary Haveron believes the victory will help kick-start his team’s season.

“I’m pleased for the board and the fans,” he said. “But I’ve said to the boys that one result will not undo the disappointment of the results over the past couple of months.

“But I wanted to restore a bit of pride and put a bit of belief back into the supporters.”
