Half of us are middle-lane M-way hogs
SOME 50% of drivers admit hogging the middle lane on motorways.
More than 40% say they do it even when the inside, slower lane is clear.
A study showed 27% use only the outside lane, with 23% sticking to the inner.
The findings were revealed in 70 hours of motorway video footage.
Only half of motorists knew they could be prosecuted for careless driving by using the middle lane when the inside is free.
Rob Miles, of Direct Line, said: “Our analysis shows millions of drivers risk prosecution by travelling in the middle and outside lanes when the inside lanes are clear.
“It’s important that we increase awareness of the rules and penalties.”
