Disabled son forced out of house after ceiling falls in

- BY RYAN SMITH

A MOTHER and son with disabilities have been left devastated after a bedroom ceiling at their home caved in.

Robert Nesbitt, 34, who has spina bifida, has to sleep at a pal’s house because of the damage.

And his 75-year-old mum Elizabeth is gutted by the damage to her “pride and joy”.

Elizabeth’s daughter Caroline said the Housing Executive’s response to the damage at the house on Belair Street in West Belfast was too slow.

She told the Mirror: “I’m really angry my mum and my wee brother have been left like this.

“My wee brother has to sleep at a friend’s house because he has nowhere to sleep.

“The house is freezing because the door for the loft has been taken off and the windows are open to dry it all out.

“We just want to get this sorted. Two people with disabilities, this is an emergency.

“My mum is so upset. It’s her pride and joy.”

A Housing Executive spokesman said: “We received a report of issues at this property on Sunday and our team was on site within the hour.

“Specialist work to repair the ceiling is now planned. This will happen as soon as possible.”
