Bribes ‘key to jail survival’ for Plummer

- BY STEPHEN WHITE

JAILED drugs case girl Laura Plummer will have to bribe lifers to get protection and “rent” a bed, an ex-inmate has revealed.

Plummer, 33, has begun a three-year sentence at packed Al Qanater in Cairo after bringing 290 illegal Tramadol pills into Egypt.

Pete Farmer, 45, a DJ from Essex, was held there for two years. He said: “They say there are 1,000 women there. It’s more like 5,000.”

He says Plummer will be targeted as a high-profile foreigner. She will not be able to work so will have to pay inmates with cigarettes smuggled in, and staff with cash from outside.

Mr Farmer said disease is rife in Al Qanater, which he says is “not prison – it’s hell”. Plummer’s family are planning an appeal and hope to visit her this week.
