Ring hunter’s detector joy

A WOMAN who lost her engagement ring at a Civil War re-enactment found it over a year later after going back with a metal detector.

Debbie Newton, 61, had put the band in her purse while playing an artillery officer at Newport Pagnell, Bucks, in August 2016.

She realised it was gone after getting home to Rawcliffe, Yorks, and drove 140 miles back to the field – but could not find it.

After last week’s return with the detector, she said: “It’s staggering. Nobody thought we would find it.”
