Drug-soaked mail for lags

SNEAKY inmates have been getting letters sent in the mail laced with drugs – then rolling them up to smoke behind bars.

Staff at HMP Deerbolt have started photocopying post in a bid to halt the letters and photos sprayed with psychoactive substances such as Spice.

An Independent Monitoring Board report yesterday praised the category C jail, in Co Durham.

But it added lags had faced mail delays, adding: “This has been the subject of many complaints.”
