‘Gran smotherer’ in threat to kill girlfriend, court told

AN ex-soldier accused of smothering his grandmother later threatened to kill his girlfriend as she slept, a court heard.

Barry Rogers, 33, also told his nan that if her pain got too much he would “finish her off”, according to his ex-partner Rhianne Morris.

Ms Morris said Rogers threatened to get rid of her in her sleep, while holding a pillow to his face.

She said: “I remember him once saying, ‘I’ll do to you like I did to her’.” She said she was too scared to ask Rogers what he meant.

Rogers is on trial with his mother Penelope John, 50, accused of murdering retired nurse, 84-year-old Betty Guy. John is accused of feeding her mother tablets and alcohol before Rogers smothered her. Rogers, of Fishguard, Pembrokeshire, and John, of St Dogmaels, deny murder. The trial continues at Swansea crown court.
