OAP swallows tooth and wire

AN OAP was in agony after swallowing a false tooth with a steel wire attached.

Ram Kuber Phatak, 77, accidentally gulped down the denture as he ate a sandwich at a street food stall.

Doctors in Mumbai used a flexible endoscope to fish it out. Dr Shrinivas Chavan said: “He was lucky. There weren’t any cuts. People with artificial teeth should regularly get check-ups.”

Mr Phatak was recovering in hospital last night. He said he had not seen a dentist since getting the dentures in 2005.

He added: “In the past three years the denture had come loose,. But I didn’t have enough money to get it fixed.”
