GEORGE CLARKE’S AMAZING SPACES
C4, 8pm The concept that your home is just four walls is completely blown out of the water in this series. Unless they are walls that are perhaps made of leaves, tilted at a weird angle, built from Lego bricks or precisely aligned with the planets. Smiley architect George Clarke returns for a seventh series, travelling around the UK with his mate, craftsman Will Hardie, to find eccentric builds by pioneering Brits. And it’s amazing how many they find. There are stunning feats of architecture within abandoned sewage works, underground air raid shelters and even the cockpit of a commercial aeroplane. In this episode, they visit a canal boat conversion in Dudley in the West Midlands and a cattle trailer in Yorkshire being turned into a luxury holiday camper. George also witnesses some incredible innovation in Japan. And the boys get all nostalgic over a toy treehouse so hatch the idea to build their own four-tonne version to play in.
