May: I’m completely batty about wildlife

THERESA May has gushed about her passion for bats and owls.

The Prime Minister spoke out as she was asked how she and husband Philip were contributing to the fight for the environment.

Mrs May said: “I’m proud of the fact that we have put a barn owl box, bird boxes and bat boxes up in our garden.”

The PM, at the London Wetland Centre in South West London yesterday, added: “We’ll certainly be making sure we are recycling as much as possible.”

Mrs May also spoke of her love of walking – poking fun at her fateful decision to call an election while hiking in Snowdonia.

“We love walking in the countryside,” she said, adding: “You might not want me to suggest that I’m about to go walking in Wales. I’m not.”
