Del Boy: I love Mrs Brown’s Boys but stop the swearing

Jason says language is too strong for kids

- BY KELLY ALLEN

DAVID Jason is happy to hand the mantle of Britain’s favourite comedy to Mrs Brown’s Boys – but he wishes they would ditch the swearing.

The Del Boy legend said of Brendan O’carroll’s show : “It is very good and very funny.

“I just find that the language is a bit strong if you want to watch it with your little ones.”

Mrs Brown’s Boys won last year’s Christmas ratings battle as Only Fools and Horses once did year after year.

David, 77, who has a 16-yearold daughter, has put down the success of his shows to the fact that all the family could enjoy them together.

He said: “The whole family can watch Open All

Hours and feel safe.

“Not only is it funny, silly and daft but there is no worry that your gran at 90 will see something. There won’t be sex or swearing or anything like that.”

David revealed that he is coming back as shopkeeper Granville in Still Open All Hours this year.

Speaking at the launch of Cirque Du Soleil’s new show at the Royal Albert Hall, he said: “It’s doing so well they’ve asked me to do some more and why should I refuse my public?” David, who has also starred in A Touch of Frost and The Darling Buds of May, still has things he wants to achieve after 50 years in showbiz but would never consider being in a soap.

“Oh no, not a soap,” he explained. “I like the change, I like to do different things.

“You could say, well I’ve done Only Fools and Horses for such a long time and I’m doing Open All Hours again for such a long time, but I do like the possibility of a change.

“I wouldn’t like to get trapped in a long series. They want me to go to Hollywood but you people keep wanting me here.”

Last year the Mirror told how David had vowed not to slow down on screen.

“People ask me if I am thinking of retiring” he said.

“It doesn’t occur to me. Different day, different challenge. Lovely jubbly.”
