Pals step up search for musician

FRIENDS and family of a popular musician have carried out extensive searches in the hope of finding him.

North Belfast man Michael Cullen was reported missing on Tuesday afternoon, having last made contact with his family at around 2pm that day.

Operations have been ongoing across the city with North West Mountain Rescue and Community Rescue Service searching the Cave Hill area.

Spokesman Sean Mccorry told the Mirror: “We’re assisting with searches at present in the Cave Hill area as it’s an area very familiar to Michael and also close to his home, so it is being searched extensivel­y at present.

“It’s a very large area so we have MEMBERS of the public have been left baffled after a river turned bright green.

Pictures of the luminous-looking water in West Belfast have surfaced on social media in the past 24 hours with people asking what has happened.

Colin Glen Forest Park replied on Facebook: “We would like the public to be aware this is a NON TOXIC dye used by the Rivers Agency for testing.

“It’s not Slime, Toxic Waste, Fairy Liquid, a bad case of the Flu, Aliens, St Patrick’s day trial, Jelly or any other wonderful suggestion we seen lol. Thank you all for your North West Mountain Rescue doing the top and the cliff face and we are searching the surroundin­g areas so we are co-ordinating that together.

“We’ve been searching the site since Tuesday evening and will continue to do so late into the night and again at first light.”

The West Belfast representa­tive said: “I am very relieved to find this substance is not pollution but is a tracer dye.

“This caused quite a degree of alarm among park users.” However, a Department for Infrastruc­ture spokesman said yesterday: “DFI Rivers did not use tracer dye in the area of Colin Glen on 10 January 2018.” is well known across the country and operations are also ongoing in the Dublin area on the chance he may have travelled there.

Friends have set up a Facebook page to co-ordinate efforts to find him and are urging everyone to share the appeal posters.

The 33-year-old was last seen wearing a green puffa jacket, grey jumper and black trousers.
