Top cop: I saw Mum beaten

A CHIEF constable has revealed he wanted to join the police after seeing his mother put in hospital by domestic violence.

Shaun Sawyer was 11 when he saw her being kicked, beaten and pushed down stairs.

Launching a scheme for children affected by domestic abuse he told of a “very, very violent night”.

The Devon and Cornwall force boss added: “I spent the night in an officer’s home, which is why I became a cop.”
