Bargain proposal

-

A CONTESTANT on Bargain Hunt got more than she, er, bargained for when her teammate got down on one knee during filming.

Today’s show has the first proposal in the show’s 18 years. Luckily for Tony Chambers, his partner Alison Cook said yes.

Romantic Tony made the gesture at Kedleston Hall, Derbys. As Alison had been nagging him to pop the question, Tony says he was confident she wouldn’t turn him down on national TV.

He says: “I thought doing it on Bargain Hunt would be a brilliant way of capturing it for ever. I worked closely with the production team to make sure everything was in place.

“This was a one-off opportunity that no one has ever done, and, quite possibly, won’t ever do again. It was a really unique moment.”

Alison was aware that “something sneaky” was going on but she was still stunned.

She says: “I had a game plan but it was nothing to do with getting engaged on national TV. My plan was to win Bargain Hunt.

“I was definitely the winner.” See the happy moment from 12.15pm on BBC1.
