MOVIE franchise Lethal Weapon lives on in all its 80s’ glory in this action-packed television sequel.

Sure, it’s not going to tax your grey cells, but if you like highspeed car chases and shoot-outs with barely any emotion, this is right up your street.

This is series two, and Clayne Crawford and Damon Wayans give some good buddy cop banter as the chalk-and-cheese duo Riggs and Murtaugh.

And despite the long-running plot line – that Riggs (Crawford) is grief-stricken and wants to avenge the murder of his pregnant wife – there really isn’t too much depth here. Every twist is signposted, but its perfect Friday night viewing.

In a series one finale “shock’” twist, Murtaugh discovered how much Riggs was willing to sacrifice in pursuit of the drug cartel he believes killed his wife.

Now Murtaugh is in Mexico, looking for Riggs by tracking down Tito Flores, the head of the cartel.

Within minutes, a man has been thrown out of a high-rise building, smashing into a car next to Murtaugh. So surely Riggs must be nearby? And indeed he is, wearing a brightly coloured poncho and holding a gun in each hand.

A dramatic series of events eventually leads them back to LA, but there they will have a few people to answer to.

Captain Avery (Kevin Rahm), for one, is being is questioned about the integrity of his department. “They are consummate professionals,” he claims.

If only that were true.
