RYAN’S A WILD MAN AT LAST
RYAN LEONARD is hoping to introduce himself to Sheffield United fans with a goal tonight after waiting eight months to join Chris Wilder’s high flyers.
The Blades boss wanted to sign the midfielder, 25, at the end of last season, but Southend – where he was Player of the Year three times – turned down a hatful of bids.
Wilder finally got his man this week in a £750,000 deal and Leonard (below) is hoping to make his debut against city rivals Sheffield Wednesday.
Leonard said: “It has been a long time coming and I‘m looking forward to the derby and the challenge ahead.
“It’s a massive club. I have played here a few times and got a decent goal here once which managed to be goal of the season. A few more of them wouldn’t go amiss and, hopefully, on Friday I can get another one.” He has been joined this week by midfielder Lee Evans, a £750,000 signing from Wolves, and striker James Wilson (both left), a loan signing from Manchester United. Leonard added: “I’m grateful to the gaffer for bringing me in, now I want to show the fans what I can do.”
