HUGHES TO THE 4

Jordan increases his goals tally as Duns bag a dozen

- BY CHRIS SHERRARD

DUNDELA went to town in front of goal – but it was a largely frustrating afternoon of Intermediate Cup football for PIL sides.

The Duns were always heavily fancied to get the better of Midulster side Craigavon City.

And the Duns players filled their boots, rattling in 12 goals without reply.

Jordan Hughes (circled) did the majority of the damage, helping himself to four of his side’s goals.

Devine and Mcclelland added braces with Beggs, Mcmaster, Morrison and Irwin also on the scoresheet.

Tobermore United joined them in the hat for round four with a 2-1 win away at St James’ Swifts.

Kearns and Campbell were the men on target for the visitors, snuffing out stubborn resistance from the Saints.

But for Portstewart and Steel and Sons winners Newington it was a nightmare afternoon.

The Ports lost 2-1 away at Grove United while Newington were knocked out by North Belfast rivals Crumlin Star.

Fearon hit two and Berne the other in a big win for Star at The Cliff.

This weekend it’s take two in a bid to join those in the hat for a number of other Premier Intermediate League teams.

One of them is guaranteed a place in round four with Armagh City and Queen’s University going head-tohead at Holm Park.

Neither has won the competition in its history and will see this as a great opportunity to take a further step towards doing so.

Sport and Leisure Swifts travel down the A1 to take on a Banbridge Rangers side who are enjoying a good season under the management of former Linfield player Lee Feeney.

Lisburn Distillery are also on the road, heading in the different direction up the M2 to North Antrim where Dunloy await.

The hosts are enjoying a storming season, are third in the Ballymena PIL table and with games in hand they could go second to only Bangor.

Their previous two games in this season’s Intermediate Cup have also been at home, including a thumping 9-1 win over Seapatrick in the opening round.

Moyola Park have a home tie against St Patrick’s to look forward to – their opponents having scored five in the previous round.
