My love life has gone to the dogs

O’grady’s bed full of pets

PAUL O’grady can’t say no to a stray, and it is leaving his love life in the dog house.

The star picked up a Special Recognition award at the National TV Awards, at London’s O2 Arena, for his work with Battersea Dogs Home on ITV’S For The Love Of Dogs.

“I have seven animals on the bed so if I want hanky-panky I have to do it downstairs on the couch.

“I don’t do it that often at my age anyway, it takes about three weeks to prepare for it.”

Paul was still gobsmacked about his award but refuses to take the credit. “I’m really flattered,” he said. “But this award is for work they do at Battersea.

“It’s amazing. A dog comes in near death and you think it can’t survive and then it does, and it goes to a new home... normally mine.

“I’ve got two coming this week, little Minnie and one of her puppies.

“I have a couple of Staffies and I am overrun with animals.

“Spring is on its way and farmers will knock on my door and say ‘do you want this orphan lamb?’ If I say no they say they have to kill it. Then I’m bottle feeding it two hours a day and I have the lamb in a bedroom in a box. I had a goat in my bedroom once!”

Paul is also hosting Blind Date on Channel Five which he says he is enjoying more now he is not trying to mimic Cilla Black.

Before heading off to celebrate his prize, Paul also offered us some advice for the NTAS after-party.

He said: “The red wine is awful, I think it’s from Halfords.

“Two bottles and they hang a ‘do not resuscitate’ sign on you.”

Maybe it’s down to the NTA red wine being a bit ruff!!
