Match fit for love games

-

ITV has poured millions into a new format it hopes will be the next Love Island.

In Survival of the Fittest, which starts on Sunday, hunky boys compete against gorgeous girls in challenges while also dating each other in a lodge in South Africa.

It sounds like a mix of Love Island, Big Brother and I’m A Celebrity, and among the contestants is Eastender Danny Dyer’s daughter, Dani.

Host Laura Whitmore says: “The show pitches boys against girls. The challenges are massive.

“You can expect drama, excitement, rivalry and humour… and hopefully a bit of romance!” The show is made by the Love Island production team and the winners will pocket £40,000.

Laura adds: “It is the perfect time of year for the show. We are set under the South African sun in the savannah, so while it’s miserable weather here, you can watch some lovely people in some glorious surroundings.”

We are not convinced you are going to love all the characters, as some sounded a bit like the annoying ones in The Apprentice when they spoke before heading to South Africa.

Research and development tax credit consultant Georgie Clarke, 25, bragged: “My unique selling point is I have brains and beauty.” And fitness model David Lundy, 26, said proudly: “My eyes are very eyecatching.”

Thankfully, Dani Mas Dyer, 21, sounds like a chip off the old block: “My friends would describe me as ‘The Liability’. I do stupid things.”

The show starts on ITV2 on Sunday at 9pm.
