TERRIERS FIND A LITTLE BIT EXTRA
Birmingham 1 Huddersfield 4 (aet) score at 90 mins 1-1
HUDDERSFIELD came from behind to finally see off Birmingham in extra-time to set-up a televised fifthround home tie with Manchester United.
Steve Mounie headed his sixth goal of the season in the 94th minute after it finished 1-1 at full-time.
Then sub Rajiv van La Parra struck in the 97th minute with a follow up, after Tom Ince’s initial shot was blocked.
Ince wrapped up victory in the 106th minute with a left-footed shot from outside the box.
The Premier League visitors had the best of the first half as Abdelhamid Sabiri shot wide and Scott Malone hit the side-netting.
But Championship Blues improved after the break to pile on the pressure for top-flight strugglers Town, who sit 19th in the table.
Che Adams made the breakthrough in the 52nd minute with a fine, low right-foot shot from the top of the box following a Lukas Jutkiewicz knock-down.
It was the striker’s sixth of the season for Steve Cotterill’s improving Championship side.
But Town levelled in the 60th minute after Ince hit a fierce shot, which David Stockdale initially saved, but it spun over the line as Marc Roberts tried in vain to clear it.
Stockdale made a fine double save 10 minutes before the end of normal time from Ince’s 25-yarder, as he threw himself to his right, and was quickly up to deny Malone’s follow up.
Stockdale’s display continued in the 83rd minute with another save from the exasperated Ince.
But he was unable to deny Town in extra-time as their Premier League class and fitness showed.
The visitors’ win means they face United again later this month after losing 2–0 at Old Trafford in the league on Saturday.
