Donnelly’s last-gasp wonder score seals Red hand win

- Kildare Tyrone BY PATRICK WARD

A SENSATIONAL point from the left touchline by Matty Donnelly in the sixth minute of injury time edged Tyrone to victory in a thriller.

St Conleth’s Park in Newbridge was engulfed in a band of snow shortly before throw-in.

It was the home side who adapted to the tricky conditions much better as they raced into a 0-4 to no score lead inside 10 minutes. The midfield partner- ship of the superb Kevin Feely and Tommy Moolick was dominant, while the Lilywhites were also hungry on the breaking ball early on.

Feely opened the scoring from a free, while Fergal Conway posted two excellent points and Ben Mccormack angled over a beauty from the left wing in an entertaining opening spell.

Tyrone took 12 minutes to get up and running and it was the superb Niall Sludden who floated over their opening score.

Daniel Flynn and Johnny Byrne combined to set up corner back Peter Kelly for one of the scores of the game soon after.

However, Tyrone enjoyed their best spell of the half when they chalked up three points in quick succession.

Lee Brennan knocked over two frees either side of an excellent Tiarnan Mccann point to reduce the deficit to one, but it wasn’t long until Kildare regained the momentum.
